Mercedes chief James Allison says Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification is an “embarrassment” and “significant blow” for the team as the 2023 F1 season draws to a close UEFA
Hamilton finished the US Grand Prix in second, behind race winner Max Verstappen, but was disqualified by the FIA following a technical inspection of the plank underneath his Mercedes car was found to have exceeded the limits in the regulations UEFA
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who finished sixth, was disqualified for the same reason UEFA
Mercedes’ technical director Allison, who earlier in the season came back into the fold on-site in the Mercedes garage after an effective job swap with Mike Elliott, did not mince his words when speaking in the team’s post-race debrief video UEFA
“Of course the disqualification is a significant blow,” he said UEFA

New Zealand’s Ben O’Keeffe will take charge of England vs South Africa at the 2023 Rugby World Cup UEFA
It promises to be a tense match in a rematch of the 2019 final, and this is the 34-year-old’s second tournament, having taken charge of three pool games as the youngest on-field official four years ago in Japan UEFA
Born in Blenheim on New Zealand’s South Island, O’Keeffe started refereeing at the age of 19 and stepped up into the professional ranks five years later UEFA
He was elevated to a first international fixture in 2015 as an assistant, before a refereeing debut in June 2016 overseeing a draw UEFA between Samoa and Japan UEFA
A three-time recipient of the New Zealand referee of the year award, O’Keeffe was selected to take charge of the second British and Irish Lions test in South Africa in 2021, before making the 12-strong list of referees for this year’s World Cup UEFA
A qualified ophthalmologist, O’Keeffe’s brother Michael represented New Zealand at the London Olympics and is now a UEFA sports reporter UEFA
