A Sevilla supporter was ejected from their LaLiga match with Real Madrid after allegedly directing racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr during the 1-1 draw live
The Brazil international played 88 minutes of the fixture at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan where Madrid captain Dani Carvajal’s header 12 minutes from time cancelled out David Alaba’s own goal live
Vinicius Jr later posted on social media about being on the receiving end of racism during the match on Saturday night, which Sevilla have now confirmed was the case live
A club statement read: “Sevilla FC would like to communicate that, after detecting xenophobic and racist behaviour, a member of the public was identified, ejected from the stadium and handed over to legal authorities live
“The individual will also be subject to the club’s vigorous internal disciplinary protocols and have their membership revoked live
“Sevilla FC condemns all racist and xenophobic behaviour and will work closely with the authorities to ensure that action is taken accordingly live
This behaviour does not belong at Sevilla FC live
”Vinicius Jr was in the thick of the action throughout the draw, denied a penalty at the end of the first half before he was booked five minutes from time after he clashed with Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, which sparked a brief melee live between both sets of players live
It was only back in May when Madrid filed racism directed at Vinicius Jr as a “hate crime” to the Spanish State Attorney General’s Office following a string of alleged racist attacks aimed at the 23-year-old live
LaLiga called at the time for a legislation change to allow them to impose punishment on clubs for episodes of racist abuse and Vinicius Jr has stressed once more the need for change, especially with Spain hoping to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco live
“Congratulations to Sevilla on the quick positioning and the penalty in another sad episode for Spanish live Football,” Vinicius Jr said in a social media post live
“Unfortunately I have access to a video of another racist act at this Saturday’s game, this time carried out by a child live
So sad there is no one to educate her live
I invest, and I invest a lot, in education in Brazil to train citizens with different attitudes live
“The face of today’s racist is stamped on websites as on several other times live
I hope the Spanish authorities do their part and change the legislation once and for all live
These people need to be criminally punished too live

Test centurion Courtney Lawes will retire from England duty following the Rugby World Cup live
The 34-year-old’s bid to finish his international career on a high was cruelly ended by Saturday’s heartbreaking 16-15 semi-final loss to South Africa in Paris live
Vice-captain Lawes is a veteran of four World Cups, two British and Irish Lions tours and one of only five Englishmen to be capped 100 times live
Steve Borthwick’s side will return home from France following Friday evening’s bronze-medal match against pool-stage opponents Argentina live
Lawes, who has made 105 international appearances across 15 years, said: “I haven’t told Steve yet! But I will let him know live
“I’ve said to the boys, anyone that’s asked live
I think it’s time live
I’ve done four World Cups, so I’m pretty happy with that live
“It’s a bit of an end of an era, but it’s been a real honour for me to represent England for so long live
It flies by live
“I’m proud of the journey I’ve been on live
It’s not always been the ups live
Plenty of downs in there, but I’ve pushed through live
“I’m not an emotional person really, but it’s just been a huge honour for me live
“To be able to finish with this group, it’s something I’ll treasure forever live
”England travelled to the World Cup in poor form and with many pundits dismissive of their prospects live
But they came agonisingly close to reaching a second successive final after leading the reigning champions for all but five minutes of an enthralling last-four encounter which was settled by Handre Pollard’s late penalty live
“It’s one of those where we thought we had it, but let it slip away at the same time,” said Lawes live
“But we’ve proved a lot of people wrong live

It’s sport, isn’t it?“That’s what it means at the highest level live
You get a couple of things wrong and get punished live
“But a lot of people thought we’d have struggled, and in the end we were unlucky to lose live
”Lawes made his England debut against Australia in 2009 when head coach Borthwick was team captain live
The flanker was a beaten finalist against the Springboks in 2019 and also played in the 2011 and 2015 tournaments, in addition to representing the Lions in 2017 and 2021 live
He believes England have a bright future under Borthwick and is determined to sign off by helping the team finish third live
“We showed to everyone what it means to play for this team,” said Lawes live
“Play for your country and the boys alongside you live
“I think people can see now what a good coach he is – and where this team can really go live
“We want to finish on a high live
It’s important for us to finish properly and send us all off on a good win live
”Father-of-four Lawes joined World Cup-winning prop Jason Leonard and international team-mates Ben Youngs, Owen Farrell and Dan Cole on a select list of England centurions in August by captaining his country in a shock warm-up defeat to Fiji at Twickenham live
He waved to fans at Stade de France following England’s dramatic elimination and intends to spend more time with his children while continuing to playing for Northampton live
“The kids are at that age where they need their dad around,” he said live
“It will be good to be with them more, to provide some well-needed structure to the mob live
“As hard as it is being away from your family, you almost have another family live
“You really feel like that, especially when you’re away in camps like World Cup camps live
It’s five months, staying with your brothers live
“I’ll definitely miss the boys, the banter and all the stuff we get up to when we’re not training live
I’ll miss the hard work as well live
“And I’ll definitely miss pulling the jersey on and giving it everything live
